SOUTH STAR SCHOOL
CENTRE FOR CREATIVITY
South Star School is a home for creativity, learning and connection — for all ages, all backgrounds and all journeys.
Located in the historic former Kurow School, our Centre for Creativity will offer a welcoming place where people can explore the arts, movement, personal expression and community learning in an environment that is supportive, inclusive and deeply human.
We believe that creativity is not reserved for the “talented” or “trained.” Creativity is something everyone carries. It is a way of understanding ourselves, relating to others, and being fully present in the world.
Our work is guided by a simple vision: To uplift the wellbeing of our rural communities by making the arts accessible, meaningful and woven into everyday life.
What to Expect When
We Open South Star School
We are working behind the scenes to restore the original school building and create a welcoming space. Here's what you can expect when we open the doors.
A warm hello.
A space that is lived-in, growing in beauty and character as the restoration unfolds.
This is a place to reconnect - with creativity, with community.
You do not need to know anyone here.
Just bring yourself.
You do not need to be “good at art.”
Whether you live locally, are passing through the Waitaki region, or are seeking a creative retreat in rural Aotearoa — we invite you to be part of our growing community.
Come learn.
Come share.
Come create.
